Principal Roads are all A and B roads that are not maintained by the Highways Agency. Non-principal roads are all other lower classified roads. Road condition statistics are published annually by the Department of Transport. Since 2012, the Council have continued to either meet or exceed our target of 98% for the number of principal roads not requiring maintenance.
Delivering a high quality road network is a key aim for the Council. The last reported data for this measure showed that 2% of our principal roads required maintenance. The Council will continue to work with our highways contractor to sustain this level of service.
